|
Tom Carpenter joined Wexler & Walker in 2004 from the office of Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO) where he served as Legislative Assistant.
During his tenure, Carpenter advised Akin on telecommunications, international relations and social policy directives. Carpenter maintains an extensive network of colleagues on Capitol Hill, especially among Republican Study Committee Members in the House, and his experience on a multitude of public policy issues supports our clients’ needs in the areas of financial services, healthcare, energy and technology.
Mr. Carpenter’s work at Wexler & Walker involves the development and implementation of all aspects of public policy strategies from coalition building and media outreach to direct lobbying of Congress and the Administration branch. Specifically, Carpenter has developed a significant practice area running and building coalitions for Wexler & Walker’s clients. Currently, Carpenter serves as Executive Director of the Coalition for Regenerative Stem Cell Medicine, a national coalition dedicated to advancing the use of one's own cord blood stem cells for treating conditions that have no cure today. Carpenter has also served as Executive Director of the Hydrogen Advisory Council, a coalition of U.S. manufacturing interests and energy suppliers that worked to promote public policy on hydrogen energy and fuel cell development. He also represented the Postal Reform in the Public Interest coalition during debate on reform legislation for the U.S. Postal Service.
In a similar vein, Carpenter also specializes in representing trade associations where he understands the unique needs of clients that have to answer to members rather than shareholders. Also a campaign veteran, Mr. Carpenter is active in Republican political circles and served as a campaign field director in Pennsylvania for the Bush-Cheney campaign.
Mr. Carpenter is a Phi Beta Kappa and Cum Laude graduate of the University of Tennessee where he received a degree in Communications and a minor in Political Science.
